Primary healthcare is the first point of contact many individuals, families and communities have with the healthcare system, and is usually provided by your G.P.
Primary care brings together personal healthcare, health promotion, the prevention of illness.
This means we are here to help you with your personal healthcare before, during and after an illness and to promote health and well being within our community.
It also means we work with other community-based healthcare providers as part of a Primary Care Team to ensure all your health and social needs are provided for: These include:
- A Community Nursing Service – through your public health nurse/community registered nurse
- Occupational Therapists
- Physiotherapists
- Mental Health Services
- Counsellors/Psychologists
- Podiatrists
- Social workers
Personal Healthcare
Access a range of healthcare services from health information and advice to screening for disease, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.
Improve your health and well being by gaining the knowledge, skills and information you need to make healthy choices, for example about the food you and your family eat, and the healthcare services that you need. Your best health includes not just the absence of sickness and disease but also a level of vitality to maintain enjoyment and contentment with life.
Reduce the occurrence of illness, for example avoid diabetes, obesity and heart disease by developing a picture of your overall health with the use of health screening or health checks for early detection.
